Water Desalination By Solar Energy - 28 August 2010

Initiating, managing and implementing a collaborative research project for water desalination by solar energy.

Objectives of the Project:

  1. Preparing a comprehensive study on the current state and the future of using solar energy in water desalination at the global level.
  2. Drafting a road map for the Arab world towards using solar energy in water desalination.
  3. Identifying standard specifications for a renewable-energy powered water desalination plant in the Arab region.
  4. Executing, operating and evaluating an Arab experimental water desalination plant powered by solar energy and capable of expansion into economically viable project.
  5. Achieving and reinforcing scientific research cooperation as a step towards achieving the desired scientific integration.

Project Implementation Phases:

  1. Setting the road map
  2. Scientific research and technological development
  3. Construction and operation of the experimental plant

Networks:

Since the project supports a large number of scientific research projects with many Arab scientists participating whose research results are used by the project, it becomes logical to create a network to link those scientists together to exchange opinions, suggestions and research results.

Conferences and Symposia:

At the end of each phase of the project a workshop will be held to draft the final or semi-final write-up of the scientific ideas related to that phase.
