Ismail Serageldin
Director, Library of Alexandria
Ismail Serageldin is Director of the new Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Library of Alexandria, and Distinguished University Professor at Wageningen University in the Netherlands . He was formerly Vice-President of the World Bank for Environmentally Sustainable Development and Chairman of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) at the World Bank. He joined the Bank in 1972 where he designed and managed a broad array of poverty-focused projects in developing countries.
Educated at Cairo University and Harvard University where he earned a Ph.D., Dr. Serageldin is an internationally published author on economic development, human resource issues, the environment, architecture, urbanism, the Arab world, Islam and culture. He has received numerous international awards and honors for his work and civil society efforts.

Ahmed Kamal Aboulmagd
Judge (former President) of the World Bank s Administrative Tribunal.
Dr. Aboulmagd received his education at the Faculty of Law at Cairo University, and at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA. His academic career includes his tenure as Professor of Public Law at Cairo University, member of the Academy of Islamic Legal Research of Al Azhar University, and he was Dean of the Kuwait University Law School from 1977 to 1979.
Dr. Aboulmagd has held many government positions in Egypt, including Cultural Counselor to the Egyptian Embassy in Washington DC, from 1969 to 1971, Minister of Youth in Egypt from 1972 to 1973, Minister of Information in Egypt from 1973-1975. He has also served as Chair of the Special Panel of Adjudicators, and as Arbitrator in commercial disputes, as well as being Legal and Constitutional Advisor to the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait from 1979 to 1985. He is a well-known Islamic thinker and writer. Dr. Aboulmagd has published books and articles in Arabic and English. His book of Essays Hiwar la Mowagaha (Dialogue not Confrontation) bears re-reading in these times of intolerant debate. |

Ayman El Amir
Ayman El Amir had twenty years of service with the United Nations before he joined the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. As a career journalist he served as the Washington Bureau Chief of Al Ahram newspaper, as well as a bureau chief for the Middle East in Eastern Europe and North Africa, and as Director of UN Information Centers in Sudan and Somalia . He also served as Press Counselor to the Permanent Egyptian Delegation to the UN in New York . He is a contributing writer for Al Ahram Weekly.

He is Secretary of the UK Friends of the Alexandria Library which he set up in 1994. His commercial career covered engineering and marketing roles. He has initiated projects for the UK United Nations Association, UNESCO and the united Nations covering issues such as Development in Africa, Education for All, Freedom of Expression, peacekeeping and international law.
He serves as Administrator of Strategies for Peace , formerly the Worldwide Consultative Association of Retired Generals and Admirals which is developing a new Virtual Library for Peace Support Operations.

Dumisani Nyoni,
YES Country Network Coordinator - Youth Employment Summit (YES) Campaign www.yesweb.org
From 2001, Dumisani Nyoni worked with the global campaign for youth employment launched at the Youth Employment Summit (YES) in Alexandria Egypt in September 2002. He was largely responsible for mobilizing youth groups in over 60 countries to establish national level coalitions known as YES Country Networks (see www.yesweb.org/yesnetworks ) to tackle the challenges of youth unemployment in their countries. Dumisani provided coaching, mentoring and guidance to the YES Country Networks on a daily basis ranging from providing online support, guidance in strategic planning and alliance building and the overall development of these networks.
Previously, Dumisani worked with the Earth Council Institute, an international organization established as a result of the 1992 Rio Earth Summit and mandated with coordinating the implementation of Agenda 21 at the local level. At the Earth Council, Dumisani launched the youth component of the Earth Council's "Earth Charter" initiative ( www.earthcharter.org ). Currently, Dumisani serves as a consultant, advisor and board member to numerous organizations working in youth development.. He also has experience in lecturing and facilitating workshops with diverse groups ranging from Lexington Elementary School students in Lexington , MA , to the Catholic University in San Jose , Costa Rica and Harvard University , in Cambridge , Massachussets. |

Norway Frode Bakken is a librarian of profession and has worked in public, county, college and research libraries. Active in IFLA since 1991 and has been member of Standing committees on Document Delivery and Interlending (1991-1997), Public Libraries (1997-2001) and member of IFLA Copyright and other Legal Matters committee (1998-2001).

Head of the Supreme Council of Culture, also held positions at Cairo University for 27 years, and most recently was Head of the Department of Arabic. He has been a visiting professor at Harvard, the University of Stockholm , Sana'a University and the University of Wisconsin .
He was Editor-in-Chief of Fusul for seven years. Some of his books include countering Fanaticism, Times of the Novel., Contemporary Theories, The Scope of our Times, Flashes of Reason, ,Illuminations, In defense of the Enlightenment, Enlightenment Versus Obscurantism, Refracting Mirrors: A study in Taha Hussein's Criticism , and The Concept of Poetry: A Study of the Critical Heritage . He is a prolific author, having published in excess of 22 journal articles and chapters, and 55 published papers.

He has done research and lived in Nigeria , Zimbabwe , Mozambique . His research interests cover a wide area from Ibsen's works, to the freedom of speech and copyright issues. Dr. Youssef has participated in many conferences and seminars on environment, sustainable development, fighting poverty and hunger, and conducted several researches and studies on community development, labor migration, information and the labor market.

Sa’eda Al-Kilani is a Founding member of the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network that documents, carries out studies and organises conferences on human rights, media freedoms, transparency and women rights in the Arab countries. She is a contributing writer for several publications, in Arabic, English and French including the French La Croix daily, the French L’express magazine, Financial Times, the Canadian New Internationationalist magazine and Arab human rights organizations reports.
Contributing Researcher to several international reports and books including the Global Corruption Report, World Bank report, Middle East Report (MERIP), and the US based Lawyers Committee’s report. Shi is also a correspondent for Reporters Sans Frontieres, and a representative/founding member of a chapter for Transparency International in Jordan. Ms Kilani is the author of a number of books, the most recent of which is "Freedom Fries: Fried Freedoms", a study on Arab satellite channels between state control and western pressure.

Director of the Centre for Media Freedom in the Middle East and North Africa, an NGO based in London and Casablanca, Morocco. Dr. Essoulami worked as a head of the MENA program at Article 19 for 11 years and as a journalist at Index on Censorship Magazine for one year. He is also the founder of the Euro-Med Human Rights Network, based in Copenhagen .
The center CMF MENA was created in 1998 as a research, training and advocacy centre. It is working, presently, on training media managers in Morocco and on building the first Arab Media Freedom Network which was initiated at the conference "Revitalising media freedom advocacy in the Arab world" which the center organized in Casablanca in January 2004

He is currently chairman of Alex centre for Multimedia & Libraries (ACML-Egypt); SUPERVISOR at the Central Scientific Library of the University 1996 to 2000.
Dr. Salem is on the Editorial Board of a number of international journals. His international career has included membership in a number of international organizations including IFLA, FID and FAIFE, and advisor to several organizations such as UNESCO many local, Arab and International Organizations such as " UNESCO ", " the Arab League", "ALECSO", "UNIDO", and " WHO " for projects in the Arab World. He has published five references and encyclopedic works, fourteen books (two of them with Elsevier Publishing Company); and seventy-two articles published in International Journals, many conferences papers, reports and studies. |
