As part of the European Union's objective of supporting projects and activities designed to protect and promote cultural diversity and heritage, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) has been awarded a grant worth one million Euros to strengthen the development of the cultural sector in Egypt. Through a program of activities designed in compliance with the UNESCO 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions to which both Egypt and the European Union are parties, with a particular focus on contemporary arts and the cultural and creative sectors.
