In collaboration with the European Union, and within the framework of the program Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is organizing the program’s 5th cultural debate under the theme of “The Independent Film in Alexandria 2005 - 2025”. The debate is to be held on Thursday the 29th of January 2015 at 11:00 a.m., at the Jesuit Cultural Center in Cleopatra, Alexandria.
Implemented under the theme of cultural debates, “The Independent Film in Alexandria 2005 - 2025” addresses the benefits of technological development and the potential they can offer to film industry, which include: the use of digital cameras and videos to produce documentaries and feature films. The debate will also tackle the notion of the “independent film”; which refers to films that do not conform to the market or mainstream media, and are characterized by limited release.
The debate will also explore the growing cultural development in Alexandria and the presence of a limited cinematic movement in the city, which is evolving slowly yet steadily, with the support of cultural entities that promote the independent film industry in Alexandria; such as the Jesuit Cultural Center and the Arts Center at the Bibliotheca Alexandria.
Twenty-five specialists to partake in the discussion, including: directors, writers, producers, government officials and figures interested in the field of filmmaking.
