North and South - Phase IV (Alexandria)
From 07 Mar 2015 To 11 Mar 2015
Alexandria
Within the framework of the Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt program, “North and South” team returned to Alexandria on the 7th of March to complete the 4th and final phase of their journey, and to conclude the entire project. With the project’s denouement in sight, the work and the efforts exerted within the journey approached a golden harvest that manifested itself in the artistic projects produced by the participants, which were completed during the final phase.
Taking a number of 100 participants on its board, the journey of “North and South” lasted for a period of 21 days and extended between a number of the Egyptian governorates, with the aim of nurturing new emerging talents and encouraging them to interact with Egypt’s rich and diverse culture.
The journey was launched on the 20th of February from Alexandria, where participants spent three days. It then passed through Cairo, where participants spent four days. This was followed by a seven-day Nile cruise along the cities of Luxor and Aswan, during which participants were divided into ten teams. Weaving many art disciplines together, each team was asked to produce an artistic project, inspired by the Egyptian heritage and the experiences participants encountered throughout their journey.
Upon their return to Alexandria, participants spent 6 days at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina to finalize and submit these artworks. Serving as the final stop in the journey as well, the entire project was concluded in Alexandria. Nevertheless, these art products, which serve as the legacy of “North and South”, will be further displayed in an exhibition during the final conference of the Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt program.
