The 6th Creativity Youth Forum - "Photography"

Within the framework of the program Support Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt, a project co-funded by the European Union and orchestrated by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the latter organizes a project for Egyptian youth under the name of "Creativity Youth Forums"; hosted by Bayt Al-Sinnari; Center for Science, Culture and Arts in district of Sayeda Zeinab, Cairo.
The Creativity Youth Forums aim to connect young people from different governorates and build their capacity to work together, in promotion of cultural heritage. These Forums provide young people the opportunity to participate in various workshops focused on different themes including; Photography, Graphic Design, Literature, Painting and Film-making.
The Bibliotheca Alexandrina organizes its 6th Youth Forum between the 19th to the 21st of May 2015, under the theme of “Photography”.
Practical Information
- The Creativity Youth Forum is an initiative organized by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in collaboration with the EU Commission in Cairo, and implemented as part of the Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt program.
- The official language of the Creativity Youth Forums is Arabic.
- Applications are open for participants from the ages of 18 to 34.
- Participation in the Forum is possible after filling the application and succeeding in the selection process. (The application deadline for the 6th Youth Forum is on the 16th of May, 2015).
- Selected participants of the Forum will be provided accommodation during the event.
- Successful candidates will be contacted individually by the organizers.
- All Creativity Youth Forums are held at the Bayt Al-Sinnari Centre for Science, Arts and Culture.
Criteria for Participation
- The Bibliotheca Alexandrina encourages the participation of young women and men aged between18 ― 34 years of from all Egyptian governorates.
- Applicants must be Egyptian citizens.
- Participants should demonstrate an interest or previous experience in the fields covered by the workshops (in the case of the 6th Youth Forum, applicants should demonstrate an interest and previous experience in the field of photography through the questions and answers section in the application form).
- Participants may be asked to conduct interviews with the media.
- Applicants should submit works or certificates demonstrating previous experience or knowledge in the fields covered through the workshops. Based on these works, instructors of the forums select the participants of each workshop.
- Family members and relatives of the staff working in the organization which is responsible for the selection process, are not eligible to apply.
- For the 6th Youth Forum, it is recommended for participants to bring their own cameras if possible.
In order to apply, participants must fill the application form and email it to Bayt.AlSinnari@bibalex.org together with:
- A copy of the applicant’s valid National Identification Card.
- A copy of the applicant’s CV.
- Any other relevant document the applicant deems useful in supporting their application.
The application deadline for the 6th Creativity Youth Forum is on Saturday, 16th of May 2015.

- An overview of Photography.

- Study the types of cameras and lenses (the effect of focal lens on cadre and perspective).
- Cadre configuration.
- Imaging angles.
- Color correction.
- The use of the aperture.
- Shutter speed.
- The sensitivity of the film or the sensor in the case of digital cameras.
- Correcting cadre exposure and light measuring.
- The importance of using camera holder.
- Using Flash.

Day 2: 20th of May, 2015 |

- An overview of Lighting (detailed explanation of its usage in outdoor and indoor Photography).

16:00 – 19:00
|
- Practical application on using cameras and appropriate lenses under different lighting.

Day 3: 21st of May, 2015 |
11:00 – 15:00

- An open discussion to prepare participants for the practical application in order to avoid future errors.

- Project Output: free tour inside Bayt Al-Sinnari for participants to work on their final project, which is a single photograph taken by each participant.
