It should be noted
that in general vaccinations, despite what was said before, is the only
preventive measure, which could be regarded as satisfactory. At the
beginning of nineties there was an explosion of Diphtheria and other
communicable diseases but after intervention of UNICEF, other international
humanitarian organisations and good work of local health professionals the
situation has improved.
According to WHO Regional Office for Europe levels of immunisation for
Measles are the following (1999 data): Kazakhstan-100%, Moldova, Russian
Federation –99%, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan-98%, Turkmenistan, the
Ukraine-97%, Uzbekistan-96%, Armenia-91%, Georgia and Tajikistan-90% (from
