In a cause-effect association the variables are termed independent and dependent. The independent variable is that considered the underlying cause while the dependent variable is the outcome or the end result. The independent variable could have a confounding role and thus a non-causal relation appears to be causal. Also, the independent variable could interact with another independent variable and modifies its effect. |
