Mexican immigration has added significantly to the size of the poor and uninsured populations, as well as to the welfare caseload. Mexican immigrants and their children comprise 4.2 % of the US total population. They comprise 10.2 % of all persons in poverty and 12.5 % of those without health insurance. Finally, the question of pensions, many remitted to Mexico, should be reexamined. |
