Nearly
2/3’s of the teens received a message to quit smoking and/or encouragement to quit from
their physician. Greater than 50% of teen’s received support to quit from mother and boy
friend. Many of the teens lived in households without fathers, which is reflected in the
low percentage who received support to quit smoking from their father’s. When encouragement to quit from the MD was examined with regard to
12 month smoking behavior, teens who received a message from their docs were significantly
more likely to report abstinence at the 12 month follow-up. |
