With respect to hormonal
contraception, there’s a very interesting and hard to explain set of data that’s out
there. Oral contraception use is actually associated with a two-fold increase in the
prevalence of Chlamydia. On the other hand, oral contraception use has been associated in
case control studies with symptomatic PID. How can that be? We also know from the
Scandinavian study that Salpingitis, this laparoscopic way of looking at PID, is actually
more mild among women using oral contraceptives. This suggested to us a possible way to
understand these data. |
