Islamic Civilization in Andalusia

Seminars and conferences from (11/15/2016) to (11/17/2016)

The Center, in collaboration with Al-Babtain Foundation in Kuwait, organized the International Conference “Islamic Civilization in Andalusia" from 15 to 17 November 2016 at Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Conference Center.

The conference came in honor and commemoration of Professor Ahmed Mukhtar Al-Abbadi, who greatly contributed to Moroccan and Andalusian historical and cultural studies. He also enriched Arabic academic works by a valuable collection of researches and published books. Professor Al-Abbadi passed away on 25 April 2016, leaving behind a substantial legacy of his knowledge for future generations. 

Bibliotheca Alexandrina has thus dedicated this conference to honor Professor Al-Abbadi’s scientific career and his efforts in the advancement of the field of the Andalusian Studies at Alexandria University. The researches presented to the conference were provided by eminent experts in Andalusian studies from Spain, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, Syria, and Iraq, addressing several themes, including:

  • Professor Ahmed Mukhtar Al-Abbadi as a historian.
  • The emergence and development of the science of history in Andalusia.
  • Andalusian creativity in science, arts, and literature.
  • Islamic architecture and arts in Andalusia; and Social and economic life in Andalusia.
