A group of experts in Islamic civilization and arts will present a symposium and workshops titled "Embroideries and Arts of the Kiswat (Covering) Al-Kaaba”, which is being organized by the BA-Center for Islamic Civilization Studies- Academic Research Sector in collaboration with the BA-Youth Library- Library Sector. The events will take place on Tuesday, 25 June 2024, at the Small Theater, and on Wednesday, 26 June 2024, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, at the Youth Library at Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
The seminar features lectures on both theory and practice about the production of Kiswat Al-Kaaba across the decades, as well as its artistic ornamentation and needlework. Since Egypt was the only country to have the honor of sending Kiswat Al-Kaaba to the Two Holy Mosques for six centuries, a presentation of the history of the Dar Al-Kiswa in Cairo is also included. After that, a series of workshops with a practical emphasis on explaining the decorative aspects of the Kiswat Al-Kaaba, their styles, and their reflections in folk art, followed by practical training on the Kiswa preserved in the Bibliotheca.
