Seminars and conferences from (1/21/2025)

The Center for Islamic Civilization Studies, affiliated with the BA Academic Research Sector, is hosting a seminar titled “The Unknown Papers of Imam Mohamed Abdu” on Tuesday, January 21, from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the BA Conference Centre, Delegates Hall. Dr. Emad Abu Ghazi, a Professor at the Faculty of Arts at Cairo University and former Minister of Culture, alongside Dr. Walid Ghaly, a Professor at the Institute of Islamic Civilization Studies at Aga Khan University in the United Kingdom, will be presenting at the event.

The symposium will concentrate on a collection of manuscript papers, photographs, and documents held at the Aga Khan University in London, including several pieces penned in Imam Mohamed Abdu's handwriting from 1883. These materials cover historical and political developments concerning Egypt's history during that era. Among the documents is an original draft of regulations written by Imam Mohamed Abdu in September 1883 regarding the establishment of a national government in Egypt, which was created a year after the British occupation of the country, illustrating the intellectual evolution of this religious reformer and enlightenment figure who was involved in the Egyptian national movement.
