The project has officially begun in coordination with the Center for Creative Development, Danilo Dolci, and a number of partners from different Euro-Mediterranean countries.
SlowMed has an overall budget of EUR 1.5 million, 90% of which is co-funded by the European Union (Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme 2007–2013) through the European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI). The project aims to strengthen a common feature inherent in the identities of the people of the Mediterranean: The Mediterranean Diet.
In a context in which the preservation and maintenance of the Mediterranean culinary heritage strongly affects safeguarding its cultural richness, the SlowMed project aims to promote cultural dialogue based on creativity and supporting a full recognition of food as a tool for dialogue between peoples and civilizations.
The project will involve artists from different Euro-Mediterranean countries in local and international activities, such as food contests, art competitions, and workshops on food education for children that will help spread SlowMed’s message to the main targets of the Mediterranean society.
