Access for the Disabled
The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is a knowledge facility that caters to all users, regardless of any disabilities or special needs. In order to fulfill its mission of promoting the development of an independent, self-confident, and literate citizenry through the provision of open access to cultural, intellectual, and informational resources of all types, the BA offers a broad range of services for people with all types of disabilities.

Blind and Visually Impaired
The library offers great facilities for its visually impaired patrons by providing them with assistive technology and trained staff. To learn more about the services and accommodations available for the blind and visually impaired, visit the Taha Hussein Library.

Deaf and Hearing Impaired
Bibliotheca Alexandrina was originally designed to provide the maximum level of accessibility for physically disabled patrons. The library offers the following services for this type of patrons:
  • Six elevators to facilitate movement between floors.
  • Ramps on each floor designed to provide wheelchair access between the book shelves and computer areas.
  • Designated reading tables on each floor, conforming to international handicap standards and identified by the international handicap sign.
  • Accessible study rooms for disabled patrons, equipped with high speed internet access, for the sole use of disabled researchers and postgraduate students.
