There are many RCTs being conducted all over the world—supposedly
7,000 at any one time. One reason for this is that they are often
studies that take many years before a clear picture of the
outcomes in the two groups can be determined. Also, since these
studies are the end of the line in study design, the answers need
to be as unequivocal as possible, and so collaboration by many
centers around the world is common. Nevertheless, the studies
are often repeated to be sure that one treatment is better than
another, or changed a little with different dosages of drugs or
other comparisons, especially as new treatments keep on appearing
and offering to improve on the current best ones.
