Thus, a combination of basic
serum biochemical markers appear to be useful for the diagnosis of clinically significant
fibrosis (including early stages). A combination of basic serum markers helps to
substantially reduce the number of liver biopsies done in patients with chronic HCV
infection. However, these methods of fibrosis evaluation are still in their infancy and
extensive research needs to be done to corroborate the early findings [42-44, 67].
