It was found to be a marker of
liver fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis C and alcohol-based liver disease [68,
70, 72, 73]. Serum HA levels fell significantly in patients in whom fibrosis improved (P
=0.011) [74]. HA values lower then 60 mcg/l excluded the presence of cirrhosis, or
significant fibrosis with the predictive value of 99 and 93%, respectively [75].
