These
figures led to development of more active R/ (see following slides). At the same time, TB
clinics started making their appearance, aimed at educating the patient, preventing
further spread of disease and providing support. The first TB clinic opened in Edinburgh
in 1887. In 1907, Von Pirquet described the tuberculin reaction, in 1920+ De Abreu
introduced mass photography through CXR (chest X-ray) for detecting chest TB, and in 1921
BCG (Bacille Calmette Guerin) vaccination was introduced in an attempt to control the
spread of the disease. |
