This chart
shows the relationship between the wealth of 177 countries and their child
survival to age 5. The size of the circle represents the population of the
country. Child survival to age 5 improves with increasing gross domestic
product (GDP) per capita. However, at any given level of GDP per capita,
there are large variations in child survival. This indicates that countries
differ in important ways in their approaches to maximizing the health of
their people. Other evidence shows that one of these ways concerns their
policy towards organizing and developing health systems.
