The diagnosis and management of anaphylaxis and acute allergic diseases will be discussed. The pathophysiology of allergy and anaphylaxis will be reviewed, and symptoms of allergic reactions will be described. This will be followed by a discussion of the food allergy-induced diseases and their epidemiology and natural history. An approach to the diagnosis and management of these disorders also will be discussed. Finally, a critical evaluation of ED post-care strategies will be presented.
