Over the next 2 decades Sanger, despite the strong opposition of the Catholic church hierarchy and the conservative medical establishment, was able to win most of her battles.She opened America’s first birth control clinic in Brooklyn in 1916, and though it was closed within 10 days and she was jailed for 30 days because of these activities, by the 1930's she had overseen the creation of a series of birth control clinics across the United States. |
