or explosions involving chemical or hazardous waste treatment plants · Sometime in late June, 2006, people living near the Philips Services Plant in Fairburn, GA reported an onion-like smell and this was attributed to the chemical propyl mercaptan which results from the breakdown of the insecticide Ethoprop® · Epidemiologists at Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine were asked by the Georgia Division of Public Health to assist in an investigation, since there were reports from people living near the Philips Services Plant of signs of skin, eye, and respiratory irritation in both them and their pets following detection of an onion-like odor in the air. |
