· The NCASP utilized >26,000 Microscopic Agglutination Test (MAT) serological test results to evaluate whether the proportion of serum samples submitted from dogs that tested positive for leptospirosis was increasing over time and what states had the highest prevalence of such positive tests.
· The proportion of MAT leptospirosis tests that tested positive increased from 2002 to 2004. Several states in the Midwest, South, and Northeast appeared to have the highest proportion of positive tests.
· These findings were published and used to encourage more veterinarians to vaccinate dogs against leptospirosis, thereby protecting people from zoonotic leptospirosis infection.
