It was decided at the earlier stage that patients with
hypertension in the study should be randomized either to intensive blood pressure control
or to less tight control – around 1150 patints were, so, randomized. In those given
intensive treatment the mean levels of blood pressure through the entire study were around
10 mm of mercury systolic and 5 mm mercury diastolic lower that those randomized to less
intensive therapy. Levels of blood pressure were reasonably stable maintained through out
entire period of follow up. |
