The Person
Trade-off questions are difficult to understand, even for trained researchers in the
field. Through the imposition of consistency between substantially different questions, people participating in evaluation panels are forced to adopt discriminatory positions on the value of life of disabled people. In as much as the disability weightings do not correspond to a clear preference but are the results of forced compromise, they must be seen basically as artefacts.(Arnesen and Nord 1999) A general question regards who should be asked to perform the valuations, whose values should count? Lately, the WHO has signalized that they will change the approach of disability weighting in later versions of the Global Burden of Disease studies. |
