With this shift in disease patterns, there should
have emerged a transition in health care, however, at least in the
United States, this did not occur.
We still exist in an acute care model of health care
deliver where care is more fragmented and reactionary.
We need to change health care delivery to accommodate
the epidemiologic transition to one that is more prevention focused
and where care is coordinated and planned.
Clearly the only acceptable alternative is to change.
