FIGURE :
Male life expectancy at birth: actual and projected life expectancy in years (life
expectancy is in 5 year periods from 1960-1965 and 2015-2020). A recent United Nations
World Population Report projected an overall life expectancy of barely over 70 years for
Russia during the years 2010-15 - just over 65 for men and about 75 for women (World
Population Projects: The 1998 Revision; INTERFAX Statistical Report, 1998). This life span
places Russia on the same levels with the "less developed regions" of low-income
Asia, Africa, and Latin America, into the first quarter of the 21st century.
Russia's overall life expectancy would be lower than that of China, Indonesia, Iran, and
Vietnam. Russian men can anticipate living shorter lives than men in India or Pakistan,
and about the same as in Bangladesh. |
