CHD mortality
among men aged 35-44 in 1994 and age-adjusted lung cancer mortality in 1990-1996 by state
and race. We used age-adjusted, sex-, state-, and race-specific lung cancer mortality as a surrogate of prevalence of cigarette smoking. Lung cancer mortality was significantly correlated with CHD mortality (r = 0.66, p < 0.001).
