Activity Ask students to brainstorm to generate a list of examples of voluntary associations. The longer list the students can generate, the better. Special attention should be paid to any groups with interests particular to the area(s) of study represented in the class, or to any with which students have had personal experience. Examples: Disease- or issue-specific organizations: heart, lung, cancer, kidney, AIDS, mental health, MADD Advocacy groups: disabled, developmentally delayed, minorities Professional and industrial organizations: AMA, ANA, APHA, AHA, etc; and their state and local counterparts Coalitions with health as only or major topic: Healthy Communities initiatives, parish nurse program |
