Program of the Children and Youth Workshop

The journey will Starts from the “Ancient Egypt” station, on 20 January 2013. The station will give the children a chance to wander among our great ancestors, exploring their Daily life, education, feasts, enjoying their spare time. Then the journey will pass by “The Ancient Egyptian Language” where the children will know about their Language, and writings. At the end of the journey children will be able to write their names in Hieroglyphic script.
The next journey will stop in the “Coptic period” station, on 23 January 2013, starting from the Holy family’s visit to Egypt, emergence of Christianity in Egypt by Saint Mark, passing through the idea of monasticism and lastly the children will learn about the main Coptic feasts. By the end of the Coptic journey, children will be aware of the Coptic script which is used in churches up till now.
The next journey, on 27 January 2013, is intending to visit the Greek period in Egypt, starting by Alexander the Great’ coming to Egypt. Children will meet some prominent events from the time of Alexander the Great, passing by the foundation of Alexandria city and the Ptolemaic Empire under the Roman conquest. The journey will stop after learning the ancient Greek alphabet and hence they will be able to read and write some simple ancient Greek words.
Finally, the “Islamic age” station, on 30 January 2013. The children will get to know the Islamic historical period and the marvels of the Arabic calligraphy.
The Journey will be held in Room A, Conference Center, BA, at 11:00 am.
