Coptic Monasteries - Ancient Inscriptions
13 Feb 2013
The seminar addresses the inscriptions and graffiti that adorned the walls of ancient Coptic monasteries and churches, written in several languages. The most important of those writings, are the inscriptions which accompanied the wall paintings that even became an integral part of the paintings, mainly because of the information they added on the characters or the historical events depicted. Many of these inscriptions are very important and added a lot to our understanding of this important era of Egypt's history. In the seminar we’ll be dealing with several examples of Coptic monasteries in Upper and Lower Egypt in addition to examples from Nubia.
