This paper proposes an alternative cost-based equity weight for use in the economic evaluation of interventions delivered from primary health care services. It could improve the evidence base for resource allocation decisions, for disadvantaged groups who share similar concepts of equity.

This research brief examines the levels of catastrophic health expenditure experienced by households with different socioeconomic status. This has made it possible to develop a more realistic portrayal recognizing that poorer households can be driven into poverty at a lower threshold.
