For this study, a desk review and key informant’s interviews were conducted to determine the roles of country leadership and policies in laboratory accreditation. Overall, the review revealed that Uganda has enabling factors for laboratory accreditation.

Low-income countries with high Tuberculosis burden have few reference laboratories able to perform TB culture. This article makes clear that an advanced TB laboratory can represent a low cost solution to strengthen the TB diagnosis, to provide capacity building and mid-term sustainability.
