There is
tremendous social hypocrisy about drug use. Almost all cultures have a history of using
psycho-active substances. Most cultures profit from drug sales while condemning sub-sets
of non-conforming users. Most drug-use takes place within social groups and serves a
common sharing role between members of a group. In these contexts, drug use seldom becomes
a major social problem. It is only when drug use becomes detached from its context and
becomes a solitary activity that it usually becomes problematic. |
