Perhaps the risk of human and animal deaths from these viruses cannot be practically estimated. Regardless, the risk can be reduced by SURVEILLANCE followed by VECTOR CONTROL. The amazing part of the story is that the presentday surveillance setup isn’t worth the power to blow it to hell, meaning it does not exist—unfortunately.

Then the first step on the road to good political will may have to be improving public awareness. Promotion of public awareness is needed in order to recognize the risk.
