It is
important to note that 60% of cancer survivors are 65 y old, emphasizing
that cancer remains a disease associated with aging (3). Because most
individuals today can expect to have a long life expectancy, it is
reasonable to assume that the number joining the ranks of cancer survivors
has the potential to grow correspondingly. This assumption is supported by
current population trends estimating that 20% of Americans will be 65 y old
by 2035 and the estimate that 12.6% of Americans were 65 y old as of July 1,
2000 (3). |
