In a study
by Oji et al. (Neoplasma 51: 17-20, 2004) WT1 expression was found in 96 %
(54/56) by RT-PCR. In like manner WT1 overexpression was shown in 83 % (5/6)
of cases by immunohistochemistry in 7/7 cases without mutations, suggesting
that WT1 wild type plays an important role in tumorogenesis. The overexpression of the protein of these kinds of tumors and the cellular inhibition mediated by blocking the expression of this gene with antisense oligos and ribozymes indicates its possible oncogenic role. WT1 suppress the rate of growth of many cancer cell lines. WT1 suppressesthe rate of growth of many cell lines. It is possible that the imbalance between different isoforms of WT1 is the factor responsible for determining its effect as a tumor factor. |
