Might Interleukin-6 than play a role in atherogenesis? This
observation suggest that small degrees of elevation of circulating IL-6 levels may play a
downstream role not only in elevating other cytokines but also a role in atherogenesis
itself. The proposal is then that these proinflammatory cytokines may act as common
antecedent linking at one hand insulin resistance, on the other, microalbuminuria,
activation of endothelial cells and in long term the atherotrombotic processes of
cardiovascular diseases. Proinflammatory cytokines may cause generation of fibrinogen and
some important components of thrombosis as well as any effects that may have on
atherogenesis. |
