Advantages of bupropion SR include the following:
Bupropion SR is an oral formulation (twice-a-day dosing) that is easy to use.
There is no risk of nicotine toxicity if the patient continues to smoke. Bupropion SR can be used safely in conjunction with NRT.
Bupropion SR may be beneficial for use in patients with coexisting depression.

Disadvantages of bupropion SR include the following:
Seizure risk is increased.
Patients with a current or previous diagnosis of anorexia or bulimia nervosa, patients with a history of seizures, and patients who are taking medications that lower the seizure threshold cannot use bupropion
