spreads via peripheral lymphoid cells in sheep, although BSE in cows does not. - MAFF is now searching for BSE in sheep because they could have been infected by concentrates and could be more infectious than cattle during the incubation period. The scrapie eradication plan would also remove those susceptible to all TSE's including BSE. Man. Variant CJD gives florid pathology. As with sheep PrPSC has been seen in the follicular dendritic cells of tonsils and B cells might transport it there. This could obviously be used as an antemortem test. |
