Almost one third of cases are diagnosed among people under 45 years, in contrast to other histological types of skin tumours which are mainly diagnosed among the elderly [25]. Our results agree with other studies, where melanoma has been related more to sunburn in childhood and to infrequent sun exposure than to one's total cumulative dosage of sun exposure [18, 29]. An interesting aspect is the confirmation of the existence of higher incidence rates among females, like in other European registries’ data. Incidence rates are higher in males of the United States and other non European countries, though [5, 30-32]. |
