So again, we go on to another NIH trial and
also a large trial from England called the CLASP trial, and one single center study out of
Alabama of about 300 patients. The NICHD trial was purely low-risk patients. CLASP was
kind of a classic Oxford study where somebody came to the doctor and the doctor said,
"Holy cow, she needs aspirin!" and she got it. And another woman came and the
doctors said, "This woman doesn't need aspirin" and she didn't get it. If a
woman came to the doctor and the doctors said "Gee, I wonder if she needs
aspirin," then she got randomized. So it ended up being about 75% of the women
previously had preeclampsia. Neither of these very large studies showed any benefit to
reduce the risk of preeclampsia. But the single center study in Alabama did show a
reduction in the aspirin group of patients. |
