Lumbar supports – you see certainly men on the janitorial
staff and men who are moving furniture wearing there lumbar supports. The idea is that
they will remind them to lift properly, increase intra-abdominal pressure and decrease
intradiscal pressure. All the RCTs are negative. Controlled clinical trials (CCTs) there
are some positive ones and they seem to reduce the incidence of LBP or injury. The
consensus of the evidence is because all the RCTs are negative, the consensus is that
lumbar supports don’t do anything. So that’s nixed. |
