During the current health crisis and the various measures implemented around the world to deal with the COVID19 pandemic, an accurate information is vital for saving lives and limiting as much as possible the number of cases growing by time, so that hospitals' resources are not overwhelmed by an influx of patients.
Within this objective, BAIFA has the pleasure to launch “Pandemics around the world” virtual program. Within this program, we will share every Tuesday and Wednesday some open access electronic resources, selected and evaluated by the librarians of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. These resources will provide information about the pandemics that has marked the history, as well as the recent websites developed about the COVID-19 topic.
These pandemics had also important consequences; entire countries were paralyzed and had terrible economic effects. This panorama will provide many lessons, to raise public awareness, deal with "fake news", not repeat the mistakes of the past and have the necessary weapons to face the emergence of this Coronavirus.
As the French Director General for Health, Jérôme Salomon said in his daily press briefing on the evolution of the coronavirus on April 1: "This is something completely new. Never in history have we confined and then deconfigured so many people."
The “Pandemics around the world” program is conducted through BAIFA website as well as different social media channels. Two types of resources were shared through this program. The first type of resources includes selected resources from BAIFA's website, shared with the aim of promoting BAIFA resources which best cover the program topics and greatly help the interested researchers and the postgraduate students.
