Abstract:
In order to promote the twin objectives of conservation and income generation, The Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) and the Centre for Sustainable Development (CSD) undertook an initiative to promote the cultivation of medicinal plants in the Himalayan region of India. This paper examines the results of this initiative and draws lessons from it. The project was carried out in two villages of Uttarakhand, a state in the Central Himalayas in India.
