Abstract:
The International Criminal Court assists states in closing the ‘impunity gap’ by fostering a culture for the respect of the rule of law. The Court does, however, not yet have sufficient legitimacy in Africa with the core domestic protagonists to accomplish its goals. This article discusses the challenges the Court faces in Africa and argues that the Court needs support from the international community to resolve these challenges.
