Abstract:
Maternal mortality in Ghana is still high (380/100, 100) (MoH, 2014) and the low utilisation of skilled birth attendance is a major contributing factor. Availability of skilled birth attendants to manage complications during child birth reduces maternal mortality as well as improve maternal health (Esena & Sappor, 2013a). Despite government’s efforts like the introduction of the Community-Based Health Planning and Services, the Northern Region of Ghana has remained one of the three least performing regions in SBA for the past three consecutive years (GHS, 2014b).
