Abstract:
Increasing skilled birth attendance (SBA) is expected to reduce maternal mortality in low- and middle-income countries. Uptake of SBA is only 64% and maternal mortality ratio is 398/100.000 women in Tanzania. This thesis explores the factors influencing uptake of SBA in Tanzania and best practices on respectful maternal care, to give recommendations to the Ministry of Health & Social Welfare (MoHSW) and engaged local stakeholders to increase skilled birth attendance.
